I posted this a year ago, but it bears repeating. These things never last no matter how many I make. This year I am home to make them.

At least two of the major food groups are represented here, blue cheese and bacon. These are soooo easy to make and taste so good. No matter how many I make, they are always almost instantly gone. So, make a lot. Even the blue cheese haters love these, the flavor profile is unbelievable. I thought about posting this when my wife emailed me and asked for the recipe. We always do a big Thanksgiving and I love to cook for that, something me and my brother-in-law like to do. But, I am in Iraq, my brother-in-law is going elsewhere and my wife (who is also a very good cook) is on her own this year.

Blue Cheese and Dates Hors d’oeuvres

You need:

at least one box of pitted dates
lots of blue cheese, good quality and strong, it mellows, trust me
wooden toothpicks

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Halve the bacon, one piece is too much, even for me. Cut the dates in half and stuff blue cheese into the pit holes on both sides. Put the date halves back together and don’t worry about some blue cheese seepage. Wrap each completed date with the bacon and secure with a toothpick, wooden, of course. Place on baking pan. Bake until bacon is done. Enjoy. At our house, these things are gone in an instant, you can’t make too many.
