5-Maudies – Highly Recommended

Turkish Grill

Informal, intimate space and great food

Yelp.com says this restaurant is closed. First – this restaurant IS NOT CLOSED. I went there today for lunch. Second, there is a 5-star filtered review that should not have been filtered. I don’t rate many places 5-stars, but this one deserves it.

This is a small local restaurant run by Turks. I have spent quite a bit of time in Turkey and I LOVE Turkish food. Anything with lamb in it, the breads, lots of fresh veggies.

This is the best Turkish food I’ve had outside of Turkey and this includes Germany, where there is a huge Turkish population. One of my dining companions said it was the best he has ever had. He hasn’t been to Turkey. Everyone else – five of us – loved everything they tried.

I had spiced ground lamb on a skewer grilled with rice, yogurt sauce, and a Greek salad. Everything was excellent. You could sure taste the heat of the spice, but it wasn’t overpowering. In other words, just right.

I loved doner kebab in Turkey and have been very disappointed elsewhere (the gyro places do not have real doner kebab, so don’t bother). I tasted some a friend ordered and that is what I will get next time I go.
